Hi, I've had this HP Victus since Christmas of 2024 I've had issues before but now sometimes when i open games it just restarts itself. When i got the Victus I replaced the ram with 2x 16 gb TEAMGROUP Elite SODIMM DDR5 because I didn't want just 8gb of ram but besides that that's the only thing I've added to the laptop when it restarts it gives me this log in event viewer "event log 6008 The previous system shutdown at 1:24:33 PM on ‎8/‎18/‎2025 was unexpected." its random when it happens but usually when its been on for a day or two. Temps usually never go above 80c for CPU and GPU. Would be really nice to have this fixed because it can become quite annoying, I've also reset windows and the issue still occurs.

@EthanTheMan, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Random Restarts!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check RAM Compatibility

  • Ensure that the RAM modules you installed (TEAMGROUP Elite SODIMM DDR5) are compatible with your HP Victus laptop. Sometimes, mismatched or incompatible RAM can cause instability.
  • Confirm that the RAM modules are properly seated in their slots.

2. Power Settings

  • Verify power settings, ensuring that the system is not set to automatically go to sleep or power down.
  • Check if your laptop's battery or power adapter is functioning correctly. Faulty power supplies can cause restarts.

3. Update Drivers and BIOS

  • Ensure all drivers, particularly graphics and chipset drivers, are updated to the latest versions.
  • Update your laptop's BIOS to the latest version available. HP Support Assistant can simplify this process.

4. Thermal Management

  • Monitor the laptop’s temperature using software tools. High temperatures can lead to thermal shutdowns.
  • If overheating is detected, clean the fans and vents from any dust or obstructions.

5. Check Event Viewer for Errors

  • The Event Viewer log you mentioned, "event log 6008," indicates an unexpected shutdown. Look for additional error entries that might provide more clues.

6. Run System Diagnostics

  • Use HP's built-in diagnostics or boot into HP Support Assistant to run a full system check, including memory tests.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, Thank you for responding with your suggestions. I know the ram is good but i think the laptop is not turning the fans on when it gets hot. I've monitored the temps and it went to mid 90c and the fans weren't that loud so it might not be able to sufficiently cool its self if you have more suggestions please let me know
