Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598U8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

After installing recommended Firmware Update: HP Consumer Notebook PC BIOS Update (8A3C, 8A3D, 8A3E, 8A3F)

 my camera stopped working.
When I open "Camera" app in Windows or try to use Google Meet for example, camera doesn´t appear as installed. Then suddenly it connects and appear functional for almost one second, and finally turns off and disappears again.

I´ve been reading several post regarding to these topic but none of them achieved a succesfull solution, for example:

Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Windows search bar).
  • Look under "Imaging Devices" for the camera entry. If you see the camera there with a small error icon, right-click and try updating the driver or uninstall and reboot to let it auto-install. (This is like when my IT colleagues tells me "Restart it". PHd in IT support bro. LOL )

HP Support Assistant:

  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for any updates or diagnostics for your hardware. This tool often auto-detects and resolves common issues with HP components. (Sadly Useless 😞  )

Windows Update:

  • Ensure your Windows is fully up-to-date. Sometimes, specific updates or patches can resolve hardware compatibility issues. (Always. Done)

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP support website. An outdated BIOS can sometimes lead to hardware malfunctions. (¿Sarcasm? LOL)

HP Support:

  • If drivers truly seem unavailable on the HP website, there might be a temporary issue or update to their repository. You can reach out to HP Support for direct assistance or confirmation. (My Laptop is Out of warranty)

Camera Privacy Switch/Key:

  • Some HP laptops include a privacy switch or button to enable/disable the camera. Ensure this isn't engaged. (Not in HP Victus)

System Restore:

  • Consider using Windows System Restore to revert your system to a point when the camera was working. This won't affect your files but will revert system changes (Can´t be done because it´s firmware level change)

I tried to add some humor to the situation but, let´s imagine: I´m using my cellphone for my daily meetings right now... it´s a trully mess my dear.

Regards

Hi  @UlioMario

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Thank you for taking the time to explain everything so thoroughly, It’s clear you’ve already worked through most of the standard troubleshooting that is typically suggested, and I can completely understand how inconvenient it must be to rely on your phone for daily meetings when the integrated camera was working perfectly before the firmware update.

To better understand what changed after the update and help narrow down the cause, could you kindly confirm a few details?

  • In Device Manager, does the camera briefly appear and disappear under Cameras, Imaging Devices, or USB Devices?
  • Do you see any unknown devices or devices with a warning symbol when the camera disappears?
  • If you run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, does the webcam test pass or report an error?

Since the behaviour you described involves the camera appearing briefly and then disconnecting, it may help to try the following checks:

  1. Open Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  2. Right-click each USB Root Hub and Generic USB Hub entry.
  3. Select Properties > Power Management.
  4. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  5. Restart the notebook and test the camera again.

You can also try resetting the camera driver stack:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Cameras, Imaging Devices, and USB Devices.
  4. Uninstall all webcam-related entries.
  5. Restart the notebook and allow Windows to rediscover the hardware.

Additionally, kindly run the Windows camera troubleshooter:

Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Camera

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
