My ac adaptor/battery light is blinking. My battery is plugged in; not charging. I took my laptop to Best Buy, and they said it was the adaptor cord, so I spent $50 on a new cord. It seemed to work when I brought it home; it charged and stopped blinking. Once I unplugged my new cord and plugged it back in, it started blinking again and is not charging. Every HP diagnostic test I have run indicates that my battery is fine. Any guidance would be appreciated. My laptop is 4 years old. Thank you.

Hi! @Jerseygirl8,
Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery?
Were there any recent windows update on the PC?
Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.
Try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant.
Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here
Try the steps recommended below.
On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and X at the same time to open the quick-access menu.
Click Device Manager.
In Batteries section, right-click on your battery driver, commonly it’s Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Then click Uninstall device.
Restart the PC the drivers would automatically install again.
Run Power Troubleshooter.
On Cortana, enter Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting.
Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next.
This should run the troubleshooter, and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again.
Also, Try performing a hard reset on your laptop and check if it helps.
-
Turn off the computer.
-
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
-
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
-
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
-
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
-
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
-
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
-
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
The computer starts normally or a startup menu opens.
NOTE:
If your computer does not start after pressing the Power button, then a power reset did not resolve the startup issue. SeeAdditional resources for further troubleshooting steps.
-
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
Lastly, try running a battery test from the F2 system diagnostics page under the component test.

Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery? Battery is not removable. Just purchased a brand new adapter; also tried my HP work laptop adapter to no avail.
Were there any recent windows update on the PC? Update on 7/10; having issues before this date. Quality update, 2 driver updates, 19 definition updates, and windows malicious software removal tool update.

Try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant. Looks too complicated.
In Batteries section, right-click on your battery driver, commonly it’s Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Then click Uninstall device. Restart the PC the drivers would automatically install again. Have done this a few times already.
Run Power Troubleshooter. On Cortana, enter Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting. Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next. This should run the troubleshooter, and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again. Battery display too high was the only message. Network adapter troubleshooter-couldn’t identify the problem.
Also, Try performing a hard reset on your laptop and check if it helps. (5): Remove the battery from the battery compartment. I have an unremovable battery.
