I can't complete HP's printer software install because of a bug on the page that asks what the printer is used for (home use, business, etc...)  There is no way to advance beyond that point.  The task I need to complete tonight is time sensitive and here I am stuck not able to get my job done because if HP's glitch.  What am I paying for?!?  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hi @Clarice22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re unable to complete the HP printer software installation because the setup page asking how the printer is used (home, business, etc.) will not let you continue. Let’s go through a few steps to work around this so you can print as soon as possible.

Close the installer completely
Exit the HP setup window and make sure it is fully closed.
Check Task Manager (Windows) and end any HP setup or installer processes still running.

Restart the computer
Restarting clears stuck installer states and browser or app glitches.
Do not reopen the installer until the system is fully back up.

Try setup using HP Smart instead
Open the Microsoft Store (Windows) or App Store (Mac) and install HP Smart.
Launch HP Smart and use “Add printer” or “Set up a new printer” to complete setup without that screen.

Run the installer with a different method
If you were using a browser-based setup, download the full software package instead.
Run the downloaded file directly (right-click > Run as administrator on Windows).

Change screen scaling or window size
Set display scaling to 100% temporarily in display settings.
Maximize or resize the installer window to see if the Continue/Next button becomes visible.

Use keyboard navigation
Click anywhere on the setup screen and press the Tab key repeatedly.
If the button is hidden, press Enter once it appears selected.

Skip full software and use basic printing (temporary workaround)
Add the printer through system settings (Printers & Scanners) using AirPrint or a basic driver.
This allows printing immediately while bypassing the HP setup workflow.

Disable VPNs, ad blockers, or security overlays
Turn off VPNs, browser extensions, or third-party security tools temporarily.
These can interfere with interactive installer pages.

Try setup from another device if needed
If time-critical, install HP Smart on a phone or another computer.
Complete the printer’s Wi-Fi setup there, then add it to your main computer afterward.

This issue is a known installer UI glitch, and using HP Smart or basic system drivers is the fastest way to get printing working tonight without waiting for the setup page to respond.

I hope this helps.
