Microsoft Windows 11

The HP support assistant app isn't working, so I uninstalled it and an error message pops up when I try to reinstall it.

Hi @Lukedj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having trouble reinstalling the HP Support Assistant app. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue.

Remove Leftover Files:

  • Check if there are any leftover files from the previous installation. Look for "HP Support Assistant" folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) and delete them if found.
  • You may also want to clear temporary files by running Disk Cleanup or manually deleting files in %temp% (press Win + R, type %temp%, and hit Enter).

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Download the Latest Version:

  • Go to the HP Support Assistant download page and download the latest version of the app.

Run as Administrator:

  • When installing, right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.

Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily:

  • Sometimes antivirus or firewall settings can interfere with installations. Temporarily disable them and try reinstalling the app.

Check for Error Messages:

  • If an error message pops up during installation, note down the exact message. You can look up the specific error code or message online for more tailored troubleshooting.

Use HP's Diagnostic Tools:

  • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, consider running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to check if there are underlying hardware issues affecting the installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
