I am trying to install a new version of HP Support Assistant. I click on the the tab in HPSA that installs the update v8.1.52.1 to v9.6.714.0   It connects to the HP server but won't download the new version, It just stops and puts an "x" next to downloading, Shutting down and installing.

Rather than trying to update from within the HPSA, download-save-install from the HPSA website.

NOTE:

Unless your computer is one of the "selected new" systems, the latest update will be the software version - likely 8.8.x (at this writing).  What?  The "application" version of the HPSA only runs on "some" computers - the rest of us still use the "software" version.

What Else?

You will likely have to uninstall your existing HPSA before you can install a new version.

If uninstalling "just the" HPSA from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features is not enough - that is, the new version will not in stall,

Then

You may have to (next) uninstall the HP Support Solutions software from Programs and Features.

After you uninstall the software package(s), Restart the computer and log in.

  • After download:  If you have ‘Admin’ control, highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator

Optional - After the software is installed, PIN the program to your Windows Start Screen

Windows key (Start) > list "All apps" > open category "H"

Click open category HP Help and Support

Right-Click on HP Support Assistant PIN to Start
