Thank you for your response.

HP retired support for that model series since it is more than 10 years old.

The driver is not available on the HP Site.

Hi @Francesco114,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP Pavilion dv6500 shows an Unknown USB device, and nothing is plugged in; the issue may be related to an internal device, such as the built-in webcam or another internal hardware connection.

What to try

Check Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager and look under Sound, video and game controllers or Universal Serial Bus controllers.

  • Look for any device with a warning symbol or listed as Unknown USB.

  • Right-click it and check Properties for more details. HP notes that Device Manager can help identify disabled or malfunctioning devices.

  • You can also try Update Driver Software from there. Official HP® Support.

Update drivers

  • HP recommends updating drivers through:

  • If the webcam or USB-related device driver is damaged, updating it may help.

Reinstall original drivers

  • HP shows that you can reinstall original hardware drivers using Recovery Manager:

    • StartAll ProgramsPC Help and ToolsRecovery Manager

    • Choose Advanced Options

    • Select Hardware Driver Reinstallation

    • Reinstall the related device driver if available

If it is the internal webcam

  • Since nothing external is connected, the “Unknown USB” entry can point to an internal USB-connected component, and the webcam is a possible cause.

  • If the camera is still not detected after driver reinstall/update, it may be a hardware connection or hardware failure issue.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
