Hi all,
I have Pavilion-17-ab202nf since 6 months and the Hotkeys FN + key never worked.
It didn't bothered my since but now that my laptop is a shared tool i need to make it worked.
The keys are activated in BIOS menu, i read on another threat to unplug the batterie, switch off the comp and push power for a minute than restart the BIOS options to default, it didn't work.
Others Pavilion seems to have an HOTKEY driver installer, i can't find it on HP website for my laptop nor in the HP assistant software.
Does anyone has the same issue ?
Sorry if the question already been threated elsewhere, i looked for 2 hours and checked the manual before posting without sucess.
Thanks for reading, Conatus

Hi @Conatus2,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
As I understand you are having issues with the hotkeys not working on your HP Pavilion Notebook,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you attempt to reinstall the keyboard drivers from device manager?
When was the last time they worked? Did you attempt a system restore?
While you respond to that, here’s the step by step guide for you:
Let's start off by uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard drivers from Device Manager:
Please right-click on start>select device manager>Expand Keyboards>Right-click on the listed drivers and uninstall them. Then restart the computer and check again if the issue is fixed.
Click the Start button, then click Run.
In the Run window, next to Open, type MSCONFIG.
Press the ENTER key.
In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
- On the Startup tab, under Startup Item, ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox.
NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the Hot-Key Utility application by Clicking here
For Windows drivers: Click here (ignore the ads, 3rd party link has been sent to ensure your issue is fixed, I'm going beyond my way to help you and if you would like to give me virtual high five, Click on the purple thumbs up )
I would also suggest you update the Bios, and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP Support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
If the above doesn't help, please create another User account as suggested earlier and try again.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi jeet singh,
Thanks for your response.
Even after installing the utility i don't have HKserv, i have HP message service and Hp radio Manager, both enabled.
My Bios is updated. The driver link you send me is a paid software and looks WAAAAYYYY crooked, as it says that most of my driver are out of date and display wrong date on the drivers THAT ARE NOT the real one in the device manager, i'll stay away from any propositions like this in the future if possible.
I can't find a HOT key utility that works with my laptop no matter where i looks, when i put all the time i spend on this SImple issue i think i'm gonna have to let it down even if i really don't like it, exept if you have a last tryout solution.
The key ARE enabled in BIOS
Thanks for your time,
Etienne

thanks again for your time and the support you provide to the community !

It is solved !
i don't know how this has happen, but i deactivate action keys in BIOS, restart and it didn't work.
Then i put restart put action back to enabled and when windows laugh it was working !
For the first time since i had the laptop...
I am very happy as it was the last time i would try something...
Hope this will work in the future for others that may still have unfonctionnal hotkeys after tried everything.

I am happy that the issue has been resolved. I hope the product works great and stays healthy for a long time. As @Jeet_singh is out for the day, I am relying on his behalf.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead.
