HI,

I need help with my usb drivers and controller when I updated to the new Windows 11 version 25H2 my usb ports have become faulty. Any idea on how to get this fixed?

I have already tried device manager but it does not help at all.

Hi @Chris121314

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You can download the correct USB controller driver for your HP laptop from HP’s official driver portal by entering your product model and selecting Windows 11 version 25H2. This ensures compatibility and restores USB functionality.

I’m really sorry this update has caused such a disruption—USB ports are essential, and it’s frustrating when they suddenly stop working. Since Device Manager didn’t help, let’s go deeper and get your system back on track.

Step 1: Download USB Controller Driver from HP

  1. Visit the official HP driver portal:
    HP Software and Drivers
  2. Enter your laptop’s product number (e.g., X7S46UA#ABA) or model name.
  3. Select Windows 11 and choose version 25H2 if available.
  4. Look under Driver-Chipset or Driver-USB for:
    • Intel USB 3.0/3.1 Controller
    • Generic USB Controller
    • Any MediaTek or Realtek USB-related drivers (if applicable)

Download and install the latest available version.

Step 2: Reinstall USB Controllers Manually

If the driver isn’t listed or doesn’t resolve the issue:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click each USB Root Hub or Host Controller and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your PC—Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.

Step 3: Run HP Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool checks for missing or corrupted drivers and hardware faults:

  • Visit: HP Diagnose & Fix
  • Click Start, download the tool, and follow the instructions.

Step 4: Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

These updates often resolve USB controller issues after major OS upgrades:

  • Go to: HP Drivers
  • Enter your model and install the latest BIOS and Chipset drivers.

Step 5: Check Windows Optional Updates

Sometimes USB drivers are listed under optional updates:

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
  2. Look for any driver updates related to USB or chipset.
  3. Install them and restart.

Let me know if you’d like help identifying your exact chipset or USB controller type. I’ll guide you through restoring full USB functionality.

Hi there,

The problem is that the HP fix does not help and no drivers are available for my machine anymore so I am stuck with help directly from HP.
