Hi,

I would like to know how can I downgrade my BIOS. If already done the Windows Key + B, but it does not open the file from my USB

I only get the Caps Lock key flashing.

When trying via BIOS I get a "Unable to Find BIOS Signature File" message and rolling back does not work as the previous BIOS is the one I currently have

Thanks!

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you need help with BIOS recovery as the caps-lock is blinking & the PC isn't booting up anymore,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you follow any article with instructions on recovering the BIOS?

Have you created a BIOS recovery file on an USB from another PC?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

       NOTE:

On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key  and the V key.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.

    • If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Do get back to me as I have a few more tricks up my sleeve,

That said, If I have helped you resolve the issue,

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon

followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'

And Have a great day Ahead!

Hi @Riddle_Decipher thanks for your reply

Did you follow any article with instructions on recovering the BIOS?

Have you created a BIOS recovery file on an USB from another PC?

Yes to both questions

Let me give you some details about what I'm trying to do.

After several attemps I managed to downgrade the BIOS to F35 (from F36) by going into F2 and entering into firmware manager. Nonethess, the computer does not allow me to go to previous versions from the F35? why? is there anyway I can continue downgrading?

Why I'm doing this?

My touch screen stopped working and I've done basically everything there is in HP Forums, Youtube, Quora and everything online (I've been working on this issue for a week already, I can even sleep because I'm continuously thinking about it).

The last option that I thought of was that maybe the BIOS update is the one that messed with my touch screen (microsoft already confirmed after a 3 hour support service, that it is not a Microsoft issue)

The laptop is an HP f162-dx

I posted about my touch screen issue here:

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I recommend you check if the touchscreen works on BIOS,

if it doesn't work, you can simply Contact HP to have the display assembly/digitizer replaced, there would be no charges if the device is within the HP warranty.

That said, if it works in BIOS but not on windows, a bios downgrade may not be the answer, besides if you've attempted the downgrade and yet it doesn't work, you may have to contact HP as that would be a hardware malfunction too.

I suggest you run a hardware test to identify the issue: Click here for instructions.
