How do I transfer ownership of an HP laptop?

I've been given a laptop and I would like to put the laptop in my name, for warranty purposes.

How would I go about doing this?

I don't think that is possible because I believe the warranty can not be transferred.

Thanks for that, but surely that cannot be true. If a person buys a laptop, and it's still within the parameters of the warranty, surely the new owner of the laptop also has jurisdiction over the warranty.

If they don't have email support then probably think twice about sticking with HP.
