My new RAM module I bought arrived today, and I want to install it in my notebook. I have an anti-static wristband, but I'm not sure how to use it. One issue is that all of my floors are linoleum, which I think means that any electrical current is not grounded due to that, which might pose a problem(?). Can anyone advise me how I should go about installing the RAM module? Any advice would be welcome.

Hi,
You can attach the anti-statics wrist strap to any metallic surface on the inside of the notebook.
In any case, just try to avoid touching the chips on the RAM sticks.
On page 29 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM.

Thank you for your reply and the link to the manual. That makes it clear enough for me to do it. I understand what you said about the wrist grounding strap, but I've read linoleum prevents grounding so I wonder if this will prevent me from being grounded and would defeat the purpose.

You're welcome.
It is not really necessary to be "grounded"
Basically you want to have the same static charge as the notebook so that there is no static discharge between you and the notebook. (attaching the wrist strap to the notebook) I would also not worry too much. Personally, I have inserted hundreds of RAM sticks (avoiding touching the chips and holding on the edges) without wrist strap or grounding and have not encountered any problems.
So it is possible to ground the notebook and then ground yourself which would create the same effect. I mean there must be a ground cable in the current outlets where you are. However, as I said before, this is not necessary.
I hope it helps.
take care,
David
