Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (599K0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa0666TX (805X3PA) and lately, I've noticed that it gets quite hot during use. I suspect that the fan speed might be too low, as I don't hear it running as much as I would expect under load.

Can anyone guide me on how to manually control or increase the fan speed on my HP laptop? Are there any recommended tools or BIOS settings I should look into? Additionally, if there are any troubleshooting steps or maintenance tips to help manage the laptop's temperature better, I would appreciate it.

Hi @Faiz_khan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Controlling the fan speed on an HP laptop, especially a gaming model like the HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa0666TX, can help manage the temperature more effectively. Here are some steps and tips to help you manually control the fan speed and maintain your laptop's temperature.

Check BIOS Settings

Some HP laptops allow you to control fan speed through BIOS settings. Here’s how you can check:

  1. Restart your laptop and press the F10 key (or Esc and then F10) to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Look for a tab related to advanced settings or system configuration.
  3. Check for fan control options. This can sometimes be found under a section like "Thermal" or "Cooling."
  4. If available, adjust the fan settings to a higher performance mode.

HP Command Center

HP provides a utility called HP Command Center for some models, which can help manage thermal settings:

  1. Download and install HP Command Center from the HP website or Microsoft Store.
  2. Open HP Command Center and navigate to the thermal profile section.
  3. Set the thermal profile to "Performance" to increase fan speed and improve cooling.

Regular Maintenance

Keeping your laptop clean can significantly impact cooling efficiency:

  • Clean the Fans: Dust buildup can hinder fan performance. Use compressed air to clean the fans and vents.
  • Apply Thermal Paste: If you're comfortable disassembling your laptop, reapplying thermal paste to the CPU and GPU can improve heat transfer.
  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: Use your laptop on a hard, flat surface to ensure good airflow. Consider using a cooling pad to provide additional airflow.

Update Drivers and Firmware

Make sure your laptop's BIOS, firmware, and drivers are up-to-date. This can sometimes improve thermal management and fan control:

  1. Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number.
  2. Download and install any available BIOS updates and system drivers.

Monitor Temperatures

Keep an eye on your laptop's temperatures to ensure it's running within safe limits:

  • Core Temp: A lightweight program to monitor CPU temperatures.
  • GPU-Z: Monitors GPU temperatures and other statistics.

By following these steps, you should be able to better manage your HP Victus Gaming Laptop's fan speeds and overall temperature, improving performance and longevity.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
