Does anyone know how to disable HP's auto lock and awake mode?
I'd like to be able to watch movies and online videos, however if I sit still for too long or stand up to get something then my Spectre laptop suddenly goes to sleep/lock mode which is really annoying!
HP online help offers solution as follows...
"Click the Search icon in the taskbar, type auto lock in the search box, and then click HP Auto Lock and Awake. The HP Auto Lock and Awake screen is displayed."
Unfortunately a taskbar search does not point to any "auto lock" nor "HP Auto Lock and Awake" setting. Similarly, a search through Settings does not locate any hits for "auto lock", "awake", "lock and awake" etc
Is anyone able to provide guidance to disable this really annoying feature?

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
That is a really good question, one I had to grapple with a while ago myself.
The "auto lock" and "awake" modes on laptops like the HP Spectre x360 are typically related to power management settings and the laptop's sleep behavior. To customize these settings, you'll need to access the Windows power settings. Here's how it worked for me:
Open Power & Sleep Settings:
- Click on the Windows Start button, then click on the "Settings" (gear-shaped) icon.
- In the Settings window, select "System."
Access Power & Sleep Settings:
- In the left sidebar, click on "Power & sleep."
Adjust Sleep Settings:
- Under the "Sleep" section, you can adjust when your computer goes to sleep when it's plugged in and when it's on battery power.
- You can set longer or shorter intervals, or even set both options to "Never" if you want to prevent the laptop from going to sleep automatically.
Change Additional Power Settings:
- To access more advanced power settings, click on the "Additional power settings" link on the right side of the window. This will open the Power Options settings.
Edit Power Plan Settings:
- You'll see the power plans available on your laptop. Most laptops come with a balanced power plan as the default. Click on "Change plan settings" next to the power plan you're using.
Customize Advanced Power Settings:
- In the Edit Plan Settings window, click on "Change advanced power settings."
Adjust Sleep Settings:
- In the Power Options dialog box, you can fine-tune various power management settings. Look for options related to "Sleep" or "Hibernate" settings.
- You can adjust settings like "Sleep after," "Hibernate after," "Allow hybrid sleep," and more.
Save Changes:
- Make the changes you want, and then click "OK" to apply them.
Remember that disabling sleep modes or setting very long times before sleep can impact your laptop's battery life and overall performance. It's a good idea to find a balance that meets your needs while still allowing the laptop to conserve power when not in use.
Please note that the exact steps and options might vary depending on your version of Windows and any updates that have been applied. If you're having difficulty finding the specific settings or options mentioned above, referring to the user manual for your laptop or checking HP's support resources can provide more detailed guidance: HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC (Frozone) Manuals | HP® Customer Support.
Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the reply - I tried the "auto lock" and "awake" modes including the sleep and screen lock settings but it is definitely something to do with the motion detect sensor rather than a sleep or power set to timer. Some additional online investigations indicate the screen turning off to sleep / lock is associated with the HP motion detect feature that seems to have had numerous names over the last few years (aka "Walk-away lock" aka "HP auto lock and awake mode" aka "HP presence aware"). This setting looks to be managed through HP Command Centre rather than the Settings/Sleep and Power settings. The HP Command Centre is accessed through the Windows icon search/command centre/GlamCam/Walk-away lock
I'll give this new setting a try when I have a mo later today and advise if this has fixed the problem.
