This service is failing to install every day and it keeps showing that fact on Reliability Monitor 5-6 times every day. I can't find any mention of this on a search of my storage. I don't believe I have installed any programs in the last month. Can anyone shed some light on this and help me stop whatever this is from failing or even trying to install at all? Is it possible this is associated with an older desktop theme I've been using?

I had this same issue on my HP ENVY TE01-4000i series Desktop PC running Windows 11 Home, version 25H2.

It seemed to start after HP Inc. Driver Update (1.85.4367.0) was installed.  I started getting up to 14 "HP Display Control Service -- Unsuccessful application installation" warnings a day in Reliability Monitor.

After 6 days of this I found a solution by a poster DonT54 on another thread on this site that's titled:

Optional Driver Update(1.85.4367.0) Causing An Unwanted 3rd Party Service To Try & Install

Per his post I went to:

     Control Panel->Device Manager->Software components->HP Application Enabling Services

I opened the Driver tab and verified the Driver Version was 1.85.4367.0

I selected Rollback Driver.  Once this completed, I verified the Driver Version now displayed 1.83.4311.0

It's been one and a half days now with no more warnings.

Hi @Jebcovet,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP device model you’re using (laptop or desktop).
  • Whether you’ve recently updated Windows or installed any HP software/driver packages.
  • If you notice any display-related issues (brightness, color profiles, external monitor behavior) when the service fails.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Check Installed Programs and Services
    • Open Services (press Win + R, type services.msc) and look for “HP Display Control Service.”
    • If found, check its startup type. You can set it to Disabled temporarily to stop repeated attempts.
  2. Update HP Software and Drivers
    • Visit the  https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers  for your device model and install the latest drivers, especially display-related utilities.
    • Outdated or partially removed HP software can cause repeated installation attempts.
  3. Remove or Reinstall HP Display Control
    • In Apps & Features, check if “HP Display Control” or similar software is listed. If present, try uninstalling and reinstalling it cleanly.
    • If it’s not listed, the service may be leftover from a previous installation.
  4. Check Task Scheduler
    • Open Task Scheduler and look for any HP-related tasks that might be triggering the install attempts. Disabling the task may stop the repeated failures.
  5. Windows Updates
  • Ensure your system is fully updated. Sometimes Windows Update pushes HP utilities, and a pending update can cause repeated retries.

I hope this helps.

My laptop is an OMEN by HP Laptop 16z-c000 and I don't use an external monitor. Never have. All software is updated as necessary every morning; Windows Update, Microsoft Store and HP Support Assistant. I have not seen any screen issues nor any sign of a problem except the errors in Reliability Monitor.

Event Viewer shows me this:

I have never tried to install anything related to Display Control Service nor any apps recently that involve this service as far as I can tell. That service doesn't show up in the Services list. This laptop almost exclusively runs on the Radeon integrated graphics but does have a descrete Nvidia GPU. Both are kept up with the most current drivers applicable to these chips and I get no graphics related crashes or glitches. HP Display Control is not an app that's ever been installed on this thing.

Hope that all makes sense and helps?

My issue is identical, and under identical circumstances to the other user but with an HP Omen Gaming Laptop 17-db0xxx

Laptop is checked/updated daily for for drivers, HP updates, and windows updates.  It is completely up to date with all. This issue has been going on for several days now. It tries to install about four or five times per start up.

I do not have HP Display Control app installed and have never used it. (Dont need it, as never use a monitor) It does not show up anywhere in programs, or services. or my apps.  It also does not show up in task scheduler, The only place it shows is in the reliability monitor as failed installs.

I have tried all the things you mention to do, but nothing has stopped it.  I eventually tried downloading the HP Control App to see if that would trigger it to stop, If maybe the display control service needed the app to be there to install. That didnt work either so after a couple days I deleted the app again. The error is continuing as before. I really would like it to stop. I dont even want the program. So please, help us.

I have the identical issue on a Victus 15.  No monitor and a Nvidia 4050.  It did start after a BIOS upgrade.   I tried to roll it back, but it's still there.    Please HELP.

Yep, same problem, HP Omen 17 cm2000na, never used an external monitor.

There's a good clue in the reason it's failing (Event ID 1013):

...

<Data>Product: HP Display Control Service -- The device is not a supported system. Aborting installation.</Data>

...

Event ID 10005:

Product: HP Display Control Service -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. The arguments are: DisplayControl, ,

(NULL),

etc

The question is, why is it trying to install in the first place? Is it Microsoft erroneously pushing this out, or HP?

I did have a driver update on 29/01

HP Driver version 1.85.4367.0

and device manager shows this as “HP Application Enabling Services”

Please make it stop, it's cluttering up Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer
