Hi @Msbranton,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how urgent this is for you, especially after replacing the battery and still seeing no life in your HP laptop. A swollen battery can sometimes cause internal damage, so let’s go through the recommended steps:

What the Solid Orange Light Means

  • A solid orange charging light usually indicates the battery is charging or the system is in a low-power state.
  • If the laptop doesn’t power on, the issue may be:
    • Damaged internal components from battery swelling.
    • Loose or disconnected battery cable.
    • Motherboard or power circuit failure.

Steps to Troubleshoot

1. Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger (leave the battery out if possible) and try powering on.

2. Check Battery Seating

  • Ensure the new battery is properly installed, and its connector is fully engaged.
  • If the battery is internal, verify the cable is firmly connected.

3. Try AC Adapter Only

  • Remove the battery and connect only the charger.
  • If the laptop powers on, the issue may be with the battery or its connection.

4. Inspect for Damage

  • Swollen batteries can warp the chassis and damage the motherboard or trackpad.
  • If you see bulging or bent panels, internal components may be compromised.

5. BIOS Recovery

  • If the laptop shows no display but the light is on:
    • Hold Windows + B, then press and hold Power for 2–3 seconds.
    • Release Power but keep holding Windows + B until the  BIOS recovery screen appears.

6. Test Charger

Confirm the charger is working by testing with another HP laptop or using a multimeter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
