Hp.omen.overlay.overlayhelper is playing up, ever since i disabled and renabled its startup in task manager it has constantly been giving me a prompt to let it change or make changes on my computer under the title hp.omen.overlay.overlayhelper, its really hassling and time consuming as while doing my work it would randomly appear and annoy me. Appears once upon startup and always never misses

@tlacop2c, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The hp.omen.overlay.overlayhelper prompt you're encountering is related to the OMEN Gaming Hub, specifically its overlay feature that provides performance monitoring and game-enhancing visuals. This issue is likely due to a permission glitch or a corrupted startup task after you disabled and re-enabled the overlay feature. Here’s how to fix it:

🛠 Here’s How to Fix It:

Option 1: Disable the Overlay Helper without Breaking OMEN Gaming Hub

You can stop the overlay component while keeping the OMEN Gaming Hub functional:

  1. Open Task Scheduler:
    • Press Win + S, type Task Scheduler, and open it.
  2. Find the Offending Task:
    • In the Task Scheduler Library, navigate to:

Task Scheduler Library > Hewlett-Packard > OMEN

  • Look for a task named OverlayHelper or OmenOverlayHelper.
  1. Disable the Task:
    • Right-click on it and select Disable.

This will stop it from running at startup and remove the annoying prompt without uninstalling anything.

Option 2: Tweak UAC Behavior for That Specific App (Not Recommended for Security)

If you trust the overlay process and are comfortable with it:

  1. Navigate to the Overlay File Location:
    • It’s usually found at:

javascript

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\AD2F1837.OMENCommandCenter_...\OmenOverlayHelper.exe

  1. Use Task Scheduler to Create a New Task:
    • Create a new basic task to run OmenOverlayHelper.exe at login.
    • In the General tab, check “Run with highest privileges” to avoid the UAC prompt.

⚠️ Caution: Only do this if you are sure the app is safe, as bypassing UAC can introduce security risks.

Option 3: Uninstall/Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub

A clean reinstall may reset the permissions:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
  2. Uninstall OMEN Gaming Hub.
  3. Restart your system.
  4. Reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.

Option 4: Disable Overlay Feature from Within OMEN Gaming Hub

  1. Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
  2. Navigate to the Overlay or Performance Monitoring section.
  3. Disable any toggle related to in-game overlays or monitoring.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
