Hi @Kentuckyjweb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP laptop is compromised by a virus, such as the "PC APP STORE." You can follow these steps to attempt to remove it. This guide will provide instructions that can help if you're unable to access standard settings or control panel functionalities:

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your computer.
  • As it boots, repeatedly press F8 until the startup options appear.
  • Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.

Use Windows Defender Offline:

  • Ensure your antivirus is up to date. If you're using Windows Defender:
  • Go to Settings (if accessible) > Update & Security > Windows Security.
  • Choose Virus & threat protection > Windows Defender Offline scan.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to perform an offline scan, which can help deal with stubborn malware.

Download and Run Malware Removal Tools:

  • In Safe Mode with Networking, you can still access the internet.
  • Visit the official websites of reputable antivirus providers to download a malware removal tool.
  • Some popular ones include Malwarebytes, Norton Power Eraser, or Bitdefender Free Edition.
  • Install and run the tool to remove threats.

Delete Temporary Files:

  • Use the Disk Cleanup tool by pressing Windows + R, typing cleanmgr, and selecting the drive you want to clean up. This can help eliminate temporary files that might be related to the virus activity.

Restore Your System:

  • If the problem persists, you may consider restoring your system to an earlier point.
  • Restart your PC and boot into Advanced Startup by holding down the Shift key while you click Restart.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Follow the prompts to restore your system to a previous state before the infection occurred.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
