Would someone please provide me with a solution to this issue.  There is no Function button on my laptop with a camera on it.   I have literally tried all of the troubleshooting steps; with no resolution.  The attached screenshot is what I see when opening the camera app; which in turn stops my ability to use the camera in other applications.  I even reset my entire laptop as per instructions from a previous HP rep for a troubleticket and that did not resolve the issue.Screenshot (104).png

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Fixmylaptop17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed info, and you're right to be frustrated after resetting the entire laptop with no fix. Based on your device (HP Envy x360 15-fe0000), the camera is not working, and no Function key to enable/disable it points to one of the following likely issues:

 1. Check the Physical Camera Privacy Shutter

Your model has a built-in physical camera privacy cover (not a function key toggle). It’s very easy to overlook, especially since it blends with the bezel.

  • Look directly above the screen at the webcam lens.
  • You should see a small slider or dot (often black or grey).
  • Slide it gently to the other side — this uncovers the lens.

🔒 If the shutter is blocking the camera, apps will show a message like “We can’t find your camera”, or you’ll see a black screen — even if all drivers and software are working.

2. Test the Camera Again

After physically sliding the shutter open:

  • Open the Camera app in Windows.
  • If the camera works, your issue was the shutter (this is extremely common).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Apparently there is a very small shutter switch in between the screen and the cover of the laptop that is hardly noticeable.  I used a flashlight and was able to see the very small shutter.  Thanks so much.

Hi @Fixmylaptop17,

Yes, on many HP laptops, including select HP ENVY and Spectre models, the camera privacy shutter is a very slim, subtle switch located just above the screen, often flush with the edge of the bezel, making it easy to miss without close inspection.

🔒 When engaged, it physically blocks the webcam and can cause the camera app to display a black screen or a “camera not found” message.

We’re glad you were able to locate it using a flashlight — smart move!
