I cannot find or activate the supposedly installed version of Microsoft Home and Student on my new laptop. When I open one of the apps (such as Word) I am asked to purchase Office 365.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

Step 1: Check Current Activation Status
1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings
2. Click on "Update & Security"
3. Click "Activation" in the left sidebar
4. Note what it says about your Windows activation status
5. Take a screenshot or write down any error messages you see

Step 2: Find Your Laptop's Original Windows Information
1. Press FN + ESC keys together to get your serial number
2. Write down your serial number
3. Look for a Windows product key sticker on your laptop (may be on bottom or under battery)
4. If you see a sticker with a 25-character key (like XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX), write it down

Step 3: Check for HP Recovery Information
While on the HP support page, look for:
- "System Recovery" or "Factory Reset" guides
- "OEM License Recovery" information
- Windows activation troubleshooting guides
- Original Windows version specifications for your model

Step 4: Verify Digital License
1. In Windows Settings > Update & Security > Activation
2. Look for text that says "Windows is activated with a digital license"
3. If you see this, your laptop should have automatic activation
4. If you see "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account," that's also good
