After getting constant pop-ups stating the Intel Optane memory H20 was degrading and it should be disabled to avoid loss or damage... I learned I had to get the app "Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management" from the Microsoft Store; however, that app did not show among the listed ones. When another similar app appeared, when clicking YES on the box, it reverted back to the free app in the store. I have tried many times but it does not work. The problem is that I am receiving a new HP laptop tomorrow and I do not want to transfer anything until I disable the Optane memory since it could further degrade with the transfer activities. Even though I had read that the app had to be downloaded from the MS store, I now read other instructions to go directly to HP (the laptop was a special order with extras arriving from China ca. 9/2022 and I found no options to go directly to HP to solve this issue. To recap, I need to disable the INTEL MEMORY H20 which had en END OF LIFE announcement anyway. I would appreciate non-tech directions since my tech nowledge is limited.

You should look for the Intel® Rapid application in the Microsoft Store. It is the only one that will work for you, and it is always free. Intel does not charge for this application.

Intel Optane Memory and Storage , It is no longer offered because it has a vulnerability.

Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (GUI)

Thank you for your prompt reply. I tried both entries but the only one available in the MS Store was the option you mentioned. However, as I had noted in my query, when I got to the box and clicked YES, which should have opened into the needed app to end the "degraded" Optane H20,  it went back to the MS app. I tried it numerous times but the result was always the same. Somewhere else I learned that when the above happened, one should go directly to the manufacturer, HP in this instance.

I don't quite understand the steps you are taking. Do you install the application and then click on the icon?

Also, if you simply remove the Intel Optane, the notebook will use the HDD for booting, and in the BIOS it is possible to disable.

Another thing: you can only be getting that error if you already have the program installed.

Thanks following up on the Optane saga. Yes, I logged in to the M/S Store and  clicked on the only option available, the Optane Rapid... When the application page opened, I clicked on the big button and the typical square box asking if I allowed...  opened. And I clicked yes (many trials, many o itead of proceeding to provide the app, it sent me back to square one. I tried numerous times but it did not work. Having read that when that happened I had to go to the manufacturer, I did that but the only options for non-warranty customers provided did not apply; hence, my posting here. I just saw a pop-up from intel too quick to read it but it seems it is not the standard one advising me that the module is starting to deteriorate. At any rate, if anyone has the answer of how to get the application or how to get the M/S application button to work, please let me know. PS,  I also tried Intel but their options do no cover this issue; however, in the automated Chat there were options that did not apply and even going to the BIOS which I do not dare do. In the meantime, after working the computer so much with searches plus a lengthy installation of updates, nos the laptop is sluggish and sometimes the clicks stop working for a few seconds.  I am still hoping for some help in solving this issue.

1/31/26- Now I read some place else that merely disabling the Intel Optane H20 would leave a corrupt app in the system.... etc. But removing it physically from the computer, leaving the 512 GB SSD by itself would be a better choice. Can this be done or are they built together? However, they recommended that the Optane memory be disabled first to test the computer speed, etc. without the module. Under Device Manager, Disk Drives, it is listed as Intel Optane H20 with SSD 512GB. Double clicking on it, brought Properties with options to update (not anymore); disable (blanked out) and uninstall. I would imagine that clicking uninstall may wipe out both the memory and the SSD 512 GB drive.  I have related the above just because it is out there but my true needs are to disable the Optane H20 module--so far not possible as detailed in my original request and other replies... nothing else!

Now I think I understand something (you didn't include the laptop model).

You have a separate Intel Optane drive from the main disk. You only have one Intel disk with integrated Optane, which cannot be unlinked. You will have to replace the entire unit because it is a single disk.

When this disk becomes disconnected from the main disk due to an error, it no longer displays the disk, only the Intel Optane.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.  To clarify and add to the above, the laptop No. HP-15t-dy200 was special-ordered from HP in 2022 when the Optane memory was fairly new. I think I had chosen a laptop with 512GB storage but was "sold" to the speed added by the OPTANE H20 plus touchscreen was added. It ran in the seven hundred dollars due to the additions and it arrived from China in 2022. I keep getting popups from Intel indicating it is beginning to degrade, and for me to disable it, since it can damage the computer if it fails altogether. Hence, I just tried the HP Chat with the question (after providing  laptop name): Can the Optane H20 module be removed by itself, leaving the 512GB storage drive intact... Or must both be removed at once (due to be linked together)? But the reply would have taken me to another area... too complicated. Obviously, even though I fear for my computer going kaput any minute thus losing everything to the clouds that be, I need to know if the memory and storage are GLUED or integrated or inseparable to solve this issue pronto. Please help if you can or hopefully some other expert happens to know the answer or where to find it form--without the obstacles I have encountered myself.

As I mentioned earlier, you have a 512 GB Intel drive with integrated Intel Optane memory. The entire drive is failing. These cannot be unlinked. You must purchase an NVME drive of the size you want and replace the other drive with it.

Many thanks again... We are getting there... After posting here, I found important HP data on my laptop's Intel Optane H20 memory which prompted me to pose a new question to Google AI. You may wish to pose the same question to Google AI which read as follows: "If a laptop having "Intel Optane H2 memory WITH 512 GB storage" shows: SYSTEM MEMORY = Two identical SLOTS of 8GB each, can the System memory/OPTANE H20 be permanently removed PHYSICALLY from their two slots leaving the 512GB storage in working condition by itself?"

It is important that you read their reply since it was based on the two Optane System Memory slots (Slots 1 and 2 listed separately with manufacturer's name, etc.) of which we had no knowledge of before I went to my HP site looking for more info SYSTEM MEMORY:
Memory Slot 1 - 8GB Nanya Technology 3200MHz "
Memory Slot 2 - 8GB " "                   " "
which was: "

Please comment once you read the AI reply. Even if AI is right based on the new info, I hope I can get the M/S app to disable it first.
