Case Subject: A Check For Updates box appears often even after I selected do not check for updates. How to stop this intrusion. It's a new laptop. It seems I've been getting this since the last update a couple of days ago.

Yep, me too!!! Can't seem t figure out how to disable the pop up. Thought going into HP Support would help under the tool icon, but nothing after unchecking a couple boxes that mentioned pop ups. HP WHERE ARE YOU?? We need a fix for this....NOW!!

I have found a small bit of relief. Since HP won't address this annoying pop up, here's what I did. I minimized the window as small as possible and selected 'Never Check For Updates'. Don't X out of it though. Just leave it on your desktop that way. Still annoying but at least it won't keep popping up over and over. It will just stay like that. HP...you're not helping us with this.

The message seems to have gone away on its own. I took no action, and it stopped. Although, now I get a frequent HP Support Assistant message that my MS passwords aren't in sync or something. Jeez, too much marketing and too many required passwords. I just wanted a simple computer that did nothing unless I called for it! No messages in the last 24 hours, so perhaps whatever I did settled matters, or, perhaps, I passed the marketing window and the 'system' decided I was not buying anything.

OK, here is the fix I did. I deleted HP Support Assistant COMPLETELY off my computer and that too care of everything!! I had the support asst on my old HP laptop and NEVER used it, only when I'd get a pop up that there was a message did I ever go into it and view the message. Mostly, useless info. You can update your own computer by going into tools, under the security and updates function.

Copying the solution from the link in "WCDEMING"'s comment:
As stated, If you have the HP Support Assistant installed, you can Uninstall it in Apps and Features. If you like it and want to keep it:\
Start (Windows key) > show list of "apps" > scroll down to category "H" >
Left-Click (Open) Topic "HP Help and Support"
Optional: Right-Click on HP Support Assistant > Pin to Start (makes the program easy to find in your Start screen)
Left-Click on (Open) HP Support Assistant
Wait for the program to open on your computer screen
Click Settings
Leave the first option "Enable your PC..." checked / "Yes"
Section "Choose how you would like to be notified"
Clear (uncheck) every box.
Clearing all the boxes has the affect of keeping the HPSA quiet (as in not-bug-your-trip-mode).
