Hi @willey1 ,

If your HP ProBook experiences scrolling issues where the touchpad suddenly stops working for scrolling, but operates with the sidebar, here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Touchpad Settings

  1. Touchpad Configuration:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
    • Ensure scrolling settings such as "Drag two fingers to scroll" are enabled.

Update Touchpad Drivers

  1. Device Manager:

    • Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your touchpad driver, and choose Update driver.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  2. HP Support Assistant:

    • Use HP Support Assistant to check for the latest version of the touchpad driver.
    • Alternatively, visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest driver for your ProBook model.

Adjust Power Management Settings

  1. Device Manager:
    • Go to Device Manager.
    • Right-click on your touchpad entry under Mice and other pointing devices and select Properties.
    • Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Perform a Hardware Diagnostic

  • HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Restart your computer and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to enter system diagnostics.
    • Perform a comprehensive test to ensure that hardware components, including the touchpad, are functioning properly.

Additional Tips

  • Cleaning: Ensure the touchpad surface is clean and free from dirt that can interfere with functionality. Use a microfiber cloth for cleaning.
  • External Mouse: Test with an external mouse to see if scrolling issues persist. This can help determine if the issue lies with the touchpad.
  • System Restart: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches affecting the touchpad

Hope this helps solve your issue
