Hello ibrahim102,

Thank you for sharing your concern.

If your camera is not functioning on your HP EliteBook 840 G5, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Privacy Settings:

    • Ensure your camera is enabled in your Windows privacy settings. Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and make sure the option for "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
  2. Test with Different Applications:

    • Try using the camera in different applications like Skype, Zoom, or the Camera app to determine if the issue is application-specific.
  3. Update Drivers:

    • Open Device Manager and locate your camera under Imaging devices. Right-click on the camera and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software to let Windows look for the latest driver.
  4. Reinstall Camera Driver:

    • In Device Manager, right-click your camera under Imaging devices and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
  5. Check Camera Kill Switch:

    • The HP EliteBook 840 G5 has a camera kill switch or shutter that physically covers the camera. Ensure it's in the open position.
  6. Run Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot and run the troubleshooter for "Hardware and Devices" to see if Windows can automatically resolve the issue.
  7. BIOS and Hardware Checks:

    • Enter the BIOS to ensure the integrated camera is enabled. This can usually be done by pressing F10 during startup to access BIOS settings.
    • Check the laptop's hardware for a camera disconnect switch or button that might be turned off.
  8. Firewalls and Antivirus Settings:

    • Some security software can block camera access. Temporarily disable third-party firewalls or antivirus software to check if it resolves the issue.
  9. Check for Windows and BIOS Updates:

    • Ensure your Windows operating system and BIOS are up to date as updates might fix underlying compatibility issues.
