Hi @Gessy1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're facing an issue with scanning using your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.1. Here's how you can resolve this and ensure your HP Smart app and printer are up-to-date and properly configured for scanning.

Update the HP Smart App

  • Open the Mac App Store, go to the Updates tab, and check if there is an update available for HP Smart.
  • If there is, update the app to the latest version. This may resolve compatibility issues with the newer macOS version.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings (or System Preferences in older macOS versions).
  • Select Printers & Scanners.
  • If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is listed, select it, then click the - button to remove it.
  • Re-add the printer by clicking the + button. macOS should automatically download the latest drivers from Apple servers.
  • If macOS doesn’t find the latest driver, you can manually download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.

Check HP Smart Permissions

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security on macOS.
  • Select Camera and Microphone, and ensure HP Smart has the necessary permissions.
  • Also, check under Files and Folders to ensure HP Smart has access to the files it needs.

Ensure Scanner is Enabled

  • Open HP Smart and go to Printer Settings.
  • Make sure that scanning is enabled on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600.
  • You may also try restarting both the Mac and the printer to reset any connections.

Check Network Connection

  • Ensure both your Mac and printer are connected to the same network. This is critical for features like scanning over WiFi.

Use Apple’s Preview or Image Capture App

  • As a temporary workaround, you can use Preview or Image Capture to scan:
    1. Open Preview > File > Import from Scanner.
    2. Alternatively, open Image Capture and select your printer to start scanning.

If these steps do not solve the issue, there may be a compatibility problem with macOS Sequoia 15.1 and HP Smart, and checking for an updated version of both the app and macOS might be necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
