Hi @MadMal1949,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The built-in camera on your HP Pavilion laptop is not designed for scanning barcodes directly. However, you can use specialized barcode-scanning apps or software that utilize your laptop's camera to scan barcodes. Here's how you can do it.

Use a Barcode-Scanning App

Download a Barcode-Scanning App:

  • Search for apps like Barcode Reader, QR Code Scanner, or similar from the Microsoft Store.
  • Install the app on your HP Pavilion laptop.

Run the App:

  • Open the app, and it will likely ask for permission to access your camera.
  • Hold the barcode in front of the camera, and the app will scan and process it.

Use an Online Barcode Scanner

  1. Open a browser and go to an online barcode-scanning website such as QR Scanner or similar.
  2. Grant camera permissions when prompted.
  3. Hold the barcode up to the camera and wait for the website to scan it.

Use a Mobile Device

If your laptop’s camera struggles with barcode scanning (due to focus limitations or resolution), consider using a smartphone instead. Most modern smartphones have built-in barcode and QR code scanning functionality via the camera app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
