Hi:

 

On today's notebooks they use smart batteries and smart chargers which means you can pretty much leave the charger connected to the battery at all times.

 

What I do is once a month, I unplug the charger from the notebook and run the battery down to the low battery warning and then I charge it up again.

 

HP has a document that provides tips for getting the most life out of your notebook's battery.   See the link below.
