Hello! I have an HP Pavilion laptop, and I’m trying to enable Secure Boot to play Battlefield 6. However, I’m unable to do so through the BIOS. I’ve tried everything, and it seems I need to update the BIOS. When I enter my laptop’s serial number and model on the official HP website, it only shows compatibility with Windows 10, and I can choose specific versions of Windows 10. However, I actually have the latest Windows 11 installed. The issue is that I can’t find the correct official BIOS update or driver for my device. What should I do?

Hi @MikeK8998

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You can enable Secure Boot on your HP Pavilion laptop even if the HP support page lists only Windows 10—BIOS updates are independent of the operating system version. If Secure Boot is unavailable or greyed out, updating the BIOS using the latest available version for your model should restore access.

Step-by-Step: Enable Secure Boot and Update BIOS on HP Pavilion (Windows 11)

1. Check Compatibility and BIOS Access

  • All HP Pavilion laptops manufactured with Windows 10 or later are Secure Boot capable.
  • To access BIOS:
    • Power off the laptop
    • Press Esc repeatedly while powering on
    • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup
  • Navigate to System Configuration > Boot Options
    • Ensure Legacy Support is disabled
    • Then enable Secure Boot

Secure Boot is only available when Legacy Support is turned off.

2. Find the Correct BIOS Update

Visit: HP Software and Driver Downloads

Enter your full product name or serial number

Select Windows 10 if Windows 11 is not listed

Download the latest BIOS update listed under “BIOS”

BIOS updates are firmware-level and apply regardless of the installed OS version.

3. Install BIOS Update Safely

  • Ensure your laptop is plugged into AC power
  • Close all applications before starting
  • Run the downloaded BIOS installer and follow on-screen instructions
  • Do not interrupt the process until the system reboots and completes the update

This refreshes firmware settings and may restore Secure Boot controls.

4. Verify Secure Boot Status

  • After BIOS update:
    • Re-enter BIOS Setup (Esc > F10)
    • Go to Boot Options
    • Confirm Secure Boot is now available and enabled

You can also check in Windows:

  • Open System Information (msinfo32)
  • Look for Secure Boot State: On

Let me know your exact Pavilion model if you'd like help locating the correct BIOS file directly.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help you enable Secure Boot and align your system with Windows 11 requirements.
