Running the following version/OS build on a   NEW   HP Omnibook X Laptop.

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 25H2
Installed on ‎12/‎4/‎2025
OS build 26200.7623

I am experiencing extreme keyboard and mouse lag.  I have tried numerous ways to correct this with Microsoft technical support input, nothing fixes it!

Have tried the following:

Update the keyboard (and related) drivers in Device Manager

  • Search Device Manager > expand relevant device category > open device Driver tab > Update Driver.

Run the Keyboard troubleshooter (or Get Help keyboard troubleshooter)

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshooter > Additional/Other troubleshooters (run Keyboard if available).

Boot Safe Mode to test (cleanest isolation)

  • Press Win + R > run msconfig
  • Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot under Boot options.
  • Select Minimal for Safe Mode or Network for Safe Mode with Networking.
  • Click Apply, then OK, and restart your PC.

If the keyboard lag disappears in Safe Mode, it strongly indicates a third‑party driver/service/startup item.

Perform a Clean Boot / try a new local admin account

The boot in Safe Mode locked me out of my laptop, not allowing me to enter the login PIN. It kept wanting me to create a new PIN but never allowed me to do so.

Had to update the BIOS using "cmd" to access and remove Safeboot.

What is causing my keyboard lag and how do I correct it?  This issue is severely impacting productivity and is a RPITA.

Hi! I had the same problem on my laptop. My keyboard and mouse were very slow.

Here’s what I did to fix it:

  • First, I updated all keyboard and related drivers in Device Manager.
  • Then I ran the keyboard troubleshooter from Settings → System → Troubleshooters.
  • I tried Safe Mode to see if the lag disappears. It usually shows if some software is causing the problem.
  • I did a Clean Boot to disable extra startup apps and services.
  • I also made a new local admin account to check if my user profile was corrupted.
  • If Safe Mode locks you out, sometimes BIOS update is needed to remove Safe Boot.

After these steps, the keyboard lag usually goes away.
You can also test your keyboard online to quickly check if all keys are responding correctly.

Thanks for your response.

I spent HOURS trying to figure this issue out.  Have done everything you suggested and more.  Updated Logitech keyboard and mouse drivers, updated the BIOS, changed mouse and keyboard settings... nothing worked. Within seconds the mouse and keyboard would go "inactive" in Logi Options+.

Using my favorite new app, "Perplexity", I started researching issues with Logi keyboards.  One of the issues I found was having other USB devices connected on the laptop port next to the USB for the mouse/keyboard combo.  This sometimes causes interference and resource contention!   Sure enough, I unplugged the USB port next to the mouse/keyboard USB and NO MORE LAG!!!!!!

Now I have to figure out how to have all my external devices connected to my new Omnibook HP Laptop that has so few ports... and why did the HP Tech's that I spent hours on the phone with not know about and suggest checking this port issue.

Wow!  Glad you fixed it!
Sometimes drivers and BIOS look fine, but small things like USB port interference can cause big lag.

It’s awesome that you found the real fix by unplugging the device next to your keyboard/mouse. This tip will definitely be helpful for other users, too.

Sometimes, it’s these small things that cause the biggest headaches. Glad your lag problem is finally solved!
