I have a strange issue with my laptop. After the shutdown, my laptop's keyboard camera shutter button's on-off indicator is turned on and remains on. I have tried almost everything, like Windows clean installation, BIOS resetting, and USB power setting, but nothing has solved my problem. When the laptop is on, the key is functioning and does its job. Has anyone any idea how to solve this annoying problem?

Hi @Manotosh1990,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the camera shutter button indicator issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Disable Fast Startup:
- Open Control Panel and select "Power Options".
- Click on "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left panel.
- Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
- Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" and save changes.
Update Drivers:
- Make sure all drivers, especially the chipset and camera drivers, are updated. You can update them via the Device Manager or download the latest versions from the HP Support website.
Adjust Power Management Settings:
- Go to Device Manager and expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
- Right-click on each entry and go to "Properties".
- Under the "Power Management" tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Check BIOS Settings:
- Ensure that all BIOS settings are correctly configured for power management. Sometimes, there might be specific settings related to USB or device power during shutdown.
HP Support Assistant:
- Run HP Support Assistant to check for any hardware diagnostics or updates that might address the issue.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Manotosh1990,
Thank you for your clear update, this detail really helps pinpoint what’s going on.
The fact that the shutter light stays ON only when the laptop is shut down and unplugged but turns OFF if AC power is connected strongly suggests this is a firmware/embedded controller (EC) behavior, not a Windows or driver-level issue.
Please try these next steps, they target the EC and BIOS more deeply:
Check for the latest BIOS updates.
Go to HP Support → enter your laptop’s model → look under BIOS and Firmware.
If there’s any Embedded Controller (EC) update listed (sometimes bundled with BIOS), install it.
Carefully follow the update instructions.
EC updates fix power glitches exactly like this.
Fully Drain Residual Power
Shut down the laptop.
Unplug the AC adapter.
If you have a removable battery, remove it. If not, skip that.
Hold down the power button for 1 full minute, not just 15 seconds.
Plug the AC adapter back in (but keep the battery out, if possible) and boot up.
Shut it down and test if the shutter light still stays on with no AC connected.
BIOS Power Settings, USB & Charging
Restart and enter BIOS Setup (Esc, F10 or Del during boot).
Look for settings like:
USB Charging in Shutdown
Wake on LAN / Wake on USB
Deep Sleep or Modern Standby
If you see USB Power in Shutdown, try disabling it.
Save changes, exit BIOS, test again.
Test Hibernate vs Shutdown
Try putting your laptop in Hibernate instead of Shutdown.
If the light stays OFF in Hibernate, this confirms the EC is using partial power states during full shutdown only.
I hope this helps.
