HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (1W9Z7AV)

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my laptop. It won't charge while it is turned on. It's only charging when it is powered off.

I have the latest windows updates installed.

I've  tried to update to the latest drivers from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/ but after the download and install wizard run it seems like I need to install the same drivers when I go back to the page.

Let me know if there are any additional information I can provide.

I run on Windows 11 version 21H2 (64-bit).

Thank you in advance.

@DanMst

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting charging issues with your notebook, and I am glad to assist you.

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Keep me posted.

If this helps, please mark the public post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

The voltmeter measures 13.15 on the power jack in my case, shouldn't it exceed 19 instead? I will try this
