I got a new laptop for christmas. I fell asleep watching it one day and it fell off my bed with the charger still inside. The charger itself was fine although when i try to turn on my laptop a navy kinda black screen pops up then it turns off again. I’ve tried resetting it but nothing will work.

Hi @ciara19,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When you press the power button, do you hear the fans or any other activity inside the laptop?
  • Do you see any lights on the keyboard or indicators blinking?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Hard reset: Disconnect the charger, then press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds. Reconnect the charger and try powering on again.
  • External monitor test: Connect the laptop to an external display using HDMI or another port. If the external monitor shows output, the issue may be with the built‑in display.
  • BIOS recovery attempt: Hold down the Windows key + B while pressing the power button. This can sometimes trigger BIOS recovery if the system is stuck.
  • Minimal boot: If comfortable, remove any connected peripherals (USB devices, SD cards, etc.) and try starting with only the charger connected.
  • Check for diagnostic codes: Watch for blinking lights (caps lock, num lock, or power LED). These can indicate hardware errors.

I hope this helps.
