Look for correct tool to rebuild Windows 10

My mom's Envy 10 laptop was crashed due to infected virus. The laptop hangs up frequently and reboots automatically from time to time. So I downloaded Windows 10 ISO and put it into USB drive but the laptop does not see the USB from boot menu.

What's wrong with this?

Hi,

Did you use software such as "Rufus" to write the image to the USB? The USB needs to be bootable.

You can also directly create USB drive instead of downloading the iso.

You should also check if the hard drive if working correctly. Try performing HP hardware diagnostics at boot.

Turn off the PC by holding the power button. Turn on PC and continuously keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F2 to enter diagnostics. Try the fast test, or at least the hard drive test.

See if there are any hardware errors.

To reinstall Windows, here is a small guide:

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (different PC or yours), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

 I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

I don't use any tool. What I did is simply copying the extracted files and folders to USB. That might be the issue?

P.S The Windows Media Creation Tool can not complete the process at the end of installation.

Yes. You need to make the pendrive bootable. You can do this with software such as Rufus or similar if you use the downloaded iso. Try using a different pendrive if you are getting an error with the media creation tool.

@ Osloben If i were you,i would use Free ISO Burner and  iSOburn to burn iso to an USB drive,many people prefer burners, and the boot disks they make are effective.

Tried 2 but the USB is still not bootable.

Maybe your computer is UEFI BIOS and doesn't Compatible with your current USB drive.. try to change another USB drive.  Another reasons is there is something wrong with your bootable USB drive, what software you use to create a bootable USB?
