Hi @ujjwal777,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I completely understand how frustrating it is when your HP OMEN 16-ae0xxx laptop’s GPU is stuck at ~40W, even in Performance Mode, especially during demanding tasks like video editing and gaming. You deserve the full power of your hardware. Let’s walk through the most effective steps to fix this.
1. Check OMEN Gaming Hub Settings
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
- Go to Performance Control.
- Set to Unleashed Mode (not just Performance).
- Then go to Power Settings and enable Dynamic Power Mode, which allows the system to intelligently allocate power between CPU and GPU based on workload.
2. Switch Graphics Mode
- In OMEN Gaming Hub, go to Graphics Switcher.
- Set to Discrete GPU Only (dGPU mode).
- Restart your laptop.
⚠️ Note: Some users found that Hybrid Mode actually performs better in certain games due to voltage stability. If Discrete Mode causes dips, try switching back to Hybrid.
3. Update BIOS and VBIOS
- Visit HP OMEN 16-ae0xxx Support Page and check for: OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-ae0xxx (B77CDU8) | HP® Support
- BIOS updates
- VBIOS updates (for GPU firmware)
- Install using HP Support Assistant or manually.
4. Use Original HP Power Adapter
- Ensure you're using the original high-wattage HP adapter (usually 230W or higher).
- A lower-wattage or third-party adapter can limit GPU power draw.
5. Check NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings.
- Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
6. Monitor for Thermal Throttling
- Use HWInfo or MSI Afterburner to check GPU and CPU temps.
- If temps exceed 85–90°C, the system may throttle power.
- Clean vents, use a cooling pad, and ensure fans are set to Max in OMEN Gaming Hub.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
