Hi there.
After the newest update I can no longer do video calls on facebook messanger. I get an error message saying I have to turn on the mic and camera. But when I go to settingt everything is enabled and should be working.
Camera works fine for other tasks as face recognition and taking pictures. Don't have a way to test the mic, so don't know about that one. I have tryed in both Chrome and Edge, but get the same message every time.
Can anoyne help my on how to get around this?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that the Mic and camera are not working after Windows update.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you tried to update the Bios as well as the audio drivers on your PC?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
As the issue started after the recent software update, I would suggest you could try to perform a System restore to a previous date where it was all working fine, for more please follow this link: HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎
Once the system restore is successful, please try to use webcam microphone and check.
Let's uninstall the audio drivers from device manager: Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Check the box that says delete the software for this device.
Then restart the computer and update the Bios, Chipset and Audio drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Hi SandyTechy.
Let me clearyfi a little bit.
The problem olny accures when trying to videochat i facebook messanger. Then i get an error message saying I need to activate the mic and camera. At the same time in the pup-menu it says that it is activated?
Once again tihs problem only appears when trying to videochat with facebook. When I use Skype everything works just fine. So I don't think updating the Bios will help anyting, but if you still think it's the right solution I will give it a try.

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm writing on behalf of my colleague @sandytechy20, as the tech is out for the day,
that said, I have reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
If the issue doesn't occur on any other application other than facebook video chat, I recommend you contact facebook support to resolve the issue, as this is not a hardware malfunction nor is it an issue with the drivers of your webcam.
Please consider using an alternate browser or (if the facebook application is installed on your device) reinstall the facebook app and check if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I was thinking the same, so I already have reported this to Facebook, but as we all know they really do not like to reply to their users, so no luck there.
The thing that puzzles me is that it happened after the last update. I have the same update on my work laptop (fujitsu Lifebook) but there everything works just fine.
I normally use Chrome, but have tryed to switch to Edge - it's the same result there.
