When my notebook sleeps and I put in the pen, Microsoft Edge Opens. My default browser is set for Chrome. Can anyone tell me how to fix it so Edge does not automatically open?

@Glnew

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Envy X360 series laptop. I read that Google Chrome is set as the default browser. But Microsoft edge opens up automatically.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Does Microsoft Edge open up by itself when the laptop is powered on?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to open Google Chrome and check the following things:

  • Type "settings" in the Windows search and open it. The following WIndow should appear:

  • Set Google Chrome as the web browser in the above window.

If Microsoft Edge opens up when the laptop starts up then please perform the following steps:

  • Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
  • Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  • Browse the following path:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Edge

  • On the right side, double-click the Prevent the First Run webpage from opening on Microsoft Edge policy.

  • Select the Enabled option.

  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted with the results. Cheers! 🙂

Hi @Glnew,

Thank you for replying,

I understand you are not able to find group policy edit on your computer, this could be if you don't administrative access on your PC. If so, I would suggest you could try these steps with administrator access and check if that helps.

If that does not help. I would suggest you could try to create a new User account with administrator privileges and check if that helps. For more assistance, please follow this link: HP PCs - Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 10)

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

So getting gpedit.msc on Windows 10 home is not that easy, it actually does not exist from what I understand, but it can be downloaded.  I was finally able to access it and I followed your directions and there is not a Microsoft Edge file

. Only internet explorer?

Hi @Glnew,

As I understand you have tried the steps suggested and this did not help to fix the issue. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

You may want to try setting it manually through Windows. This is done by doing the following:

  • Open the Control Panel
  • Go to Programs > Default Programs >Set Default Programs
  • Once the list populates, find Google Chrome
  • Select it and then press the "Set as Default" button

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care.
