The mouse pointer changes to maximum size after the system wakes up, restarts, turns on. i have to manually adjust the pointer size every time.

After a year of ownership this issue is still unresolved. I've read that this was an issue with window 25H1, and should have been corrected under 25H2. I've attempted all settings changes (past support post below), I've also re-installed drivers, and even re-installed windows 11.

System Model HP OmniBook Ultra Flip Laptop 14-fh0xxx. I can't select this from the "My Products" drop down.

Hi @AndrewD5000,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-fh0xxx mouse pointer size resetting to maximum after wake, restart, or power on. Let’s go through a few checks.

Confirm the Pointer Size Setting Is Saved Correctly

  • Open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
  • Set the Pointer size to your preferred level.
  • Change the Pointer color temporarily (for example, from white to black).
  • Close Settings and restart the computer.
  • After reboot, return the color to your preferred option and verify if the size remains saved.

Note: Changing another pointer parameter forces Windows to rewrite the pointer configuration.

Check Windows Accessibility Pointer Registry Setting

  • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Cursors
  • Locate the value CursorBaseSize.
  • Double-click it and set the value to 32 (standard size).
  • Restart the system and check if the setting remains stable.

CAUTION: Editing the registry incorrectly can affect system settings. Only modify the value listed above.

Disable Pointer Scaling From Graphics Drivers

  • Right-click the desktop and open Display settings.
  • Confirm the Scale value under Scale and Layout (for example 125% or 150%).
  • Open Advanced display settings.
  • Update or reinstall the Intel graphics driver from the HP support page for your model.
  • Restart the system after the driver installation.

Note: Some systems recalculate pointer size when display scaling is applied during login.

Check Startup Accessibility Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service.
  • Ensure the service is set to Manual or Automatic.
  • Restart the service if it is already running.
  • Restart the system and verify the pointer size behavior.

I hope this helps.

I already tried all of this per the previous/past community post. See the link in my original message.

  • Locate Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service.

** This service is not found under services.msc, it either doesn't exist or doesn't run at startup. Driver re-install does not produce this service (under windows).

Hi @AndrewD5000,

I understand your HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-fh0xxx mouse pointer size resetting to maximum after wake, restart, or power on even after reinstalling drivers and Windows. Let’s go through a few additional checks.

Check Mouse Pointer Theme Settings

  • Open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
  • Set the Pointer size to your preferred level.
  • Scroll down and select Additional mouse settings.
  • Open the Pointers tab.
  • Change the Scheme to Windows Default (system scheme) and click Apply.

Note: Some custom pointer schemes can reset size values during startup.

Disable Automatic Accessibility Features

  • Open Settings > Accessibility.
  • Select Visual effects and confirm no accessibility scaling options are enabled.
  • Go to Ease of Access > Mouse pointer and touch.
  • Ensure Text cursor indicator and other pointer enhancements are turned OFF if not needed.
  • Restart the computer and check if the pointer size remains stable.

Check Group Policy Pointer Settings

  • Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization.
  • Locate any policies related to cursor or accessibility settings.
  • Ensure they are set to Not Configured.
  • Restart the system and verify the pointer size behavior.

CAUTION: These steps apply only to Windows editions that include Group Policy Editor.

Install the Latest System Drivers from HP

  • Open a browser and go to the HP Support page for HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-fh0xxx.
  • Download the latest Chipset, Graphics, and Input device drivers.
  • Install each driver one at a time.
  • Restart the computer after installation.
  • Check if the pointer size remains correct after waking the system.

Test With a New Windows User Profile

  • Open Settings > Accounts > Other users.
  • Select Add account.
  • Create a local test account.
  • Sign out of the current account and sign in to the new one.
  • Set the pointer size and test whether it resets after restart.

I hope this helps.
