Hi @Johnriv

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds frustrating, but let's get your laptop back on track! If the Settings option is missing and Wi-Fi isn't working, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

Step 1: Check for Windows Updates

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task Manager.
  2. Click File > Run new task.
  3. Type ms-settings: and hit Enter—this should open Settings manually.
  4. If it works, go to Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Step 2: Restart Windows Explorer

  1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  2. Find Windows Explorer in the list.
  3. Right-click and select Restart.
  4. Check if the Settings option appears.

Step 3: Reset Network Settings

  1. Open Command Prompt (Admin) (Win + X > Command Prompt (Admin)).
  2. Run the following commands one by one:
    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Restart your laptop and check Wi-Fi connectivity.

Step 4: Check Device Manager for Missing Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Network Adapters.
  3. If your Wi-Fi adapter is missing or has a yellow warning icon:
    • Right-click and select Update Driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Step 5: Run Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Open Run (Win + R), type msdt.exe /id NetworkDiagnosticsNetworkAdapter, and hit Enter.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose Wi-Fi issues.
