Hi @Kirtan842,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Pavilion laptop. It can be disappointing when a device doesn't perform as expected. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to improve its performance:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
Restart the unit
1. Check for Windows Updates
Make sure your operating system is fully up to date:
- Open Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. Install any updates available and restart your laptop.
2. Update Drivers
Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause performance issues. Ensure that both your graphics and system drivers are up to date:
- Open Device Manager (right-click Start button and select it).
- Right-click on Display adapters and update your NVIDIA driver.
- Check Network adapters and Sound, video, and game controllers for updates as well.
3. Disable Startup Programs
Too many programs running at startup can slow down your laptop:
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary applications that you don’t need running all the time.
4. Check for Malware
Malware or unnecessary background processes can impact performance:
- Run a full system scan with Windows Defender or a trusted third-party antivirus software.
5. Free Up Disk Space
Low storage can also make your laptop sluggish:
- Go to Settings > System > Storage to see if your disk is full.
- Run Disk Cleanup: Type “Disk Cleanup” in the Start menu, and run it to delete temporary files and system cache.
6. Check Resource Usage
If you notice lag while switching tabs or using apps like WhatsApp, it could be due to high CPU or memory usage:
- Open Task Manager and check the Performance tab to see if your CPU, memory, or disk is under heavy use.
- If a particular application is consuming too many resources, try closing it and see if performance improves.
7. Adjust Power Settings
Performance can be affected if your laptop is in Power Saver mode:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery, and make sure it's set to Best Performance or adjust the plan in Control Panel > Power Options.
8. Clear Browser Cache
Since YouTube videos and Google tabs are lagging, clearing your browser cache might help:
- In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data, and select cached images and files.
9. Reinstall Your Browser
Sometimes, a corrupt browser installation can cause issues. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome or your preferred browser.
10. Check for Overheating
Overheating can cause the system to throttle performance:
- Ensure your laptop's cooling vents are clean.
- Consider using a laptop cooling pad if you notice it getting too hot.
