I downloaded/installed the recently release ELAN touchpad driver for my HP Envy 17 laptop. Now the touchpad no longer works.

During troubleshooting, the touchpad DOES work when in the BIOS, but not when using Windows 10. I also noticed that the recently released driver is only 2.6MB in size, which certainly is not as big as the full package was when first installed (I remember that one was at least 30MB or more. I need the driver that has the WHOLE package please.

Right now, when in device manager, I can only see the entries for ELAN touchpad if I set it to show hidden devices. They all say that they couldn't start up. I tried right clicking and uninstalling all ELAN entries then rebooting, but then my keyboard stopped working and I had to use system restore.

Here is the driver that I recently installed:

I got it working so I'm going to post the answer here in case someone looks for it later.

1. Open Device Manager

2. Expand "System Devices", making sure that you are connected to the internet

3. For each of the Intel listings, RIGHT click on each (one at a time) and choose "Update Driver"

4. Click on "Search automatically for updated driver software". Some will say that the best driver is already installed (that's OK), but others will update and let you know that the driver is being updated.

Once I did this, the touchpad immediately started working again.
