Hi all, I have an HP Pavillion model 15-ck093nd. I have a bootlock with the blink message saying I need a BIOS recovery. I proceeded with finding the right .exe file on the HP website (  https://support.hp.com/nl-nl/drivers/hp-pavilion-15-ck000-laptop-pc/model/18918926?utm_source=chatgp...). I need to run the .exe file, and put the files that are extracted from this on a USB and reboot my laptop with the USB inserted. Problem is, I don't have access to another HP computer. I'm in the countryside of France and people around me don't have a working HP computer. So I cannot run the .exe file on another computer right now. Could someone provide me with the right files to perform my BIOS update? Thanks so much!!

Hi @Lemonpeels

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing your situation, and I’m truly sorry you’re facing a BIOS recovery lockout while away from access to another HP system. I understand how urgent and isolating this feels, especially when you're ready to recover but can't extract the needed files.

Unfortunately, BIOS SoftPaq .exe files are designed to run only on Windows systems—preferably HP systems—to extract the recovery files. These files cannot be shared directly due to licensing and security restrictions.

However, you can still move forward using a workaround that doesn’t require another HP device.

Alternative Recovery Method Using Any Windows PC

If you can access any Windows PC, even if it’s not HP-branded, you can still extract the BIOS files safely:

Download the BIOS SoftPaq

Run the SoftPaq on a Windows PC

  • Double-click the .exe file.
  • When prompted, choose Create Recovery USB Drive.
  • Insert a blank USB drive (at least 1GB).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery media creation.

Use the USB on Your HP Laptop

  • Insert the USB into your HP Pavilion 15-ck093nd.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but continue holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
  • Follow the recovery prompts.

If You Can’t Access Any Windows PC

If no Windows system is available nearby, you may consider:

  • Visiting a local library or community center with public computers.
  • Asking a neighbor or friend if they have a Windows laptop you can use briefly.
  • Using a Windows virtual machine (if you have access to a Mac or Linux system) to run the SoftPaq and extract the files.

Reference Guide

You can follow this official BIOS recovery guide for detailed steps: HP Notebook PCs – Recovering the BIOS

Let me know if you’re able to access a Windows system or need help identifying the correct BIOS file for your model. I’ll guide you through the next steps so you can get your laptop back up and running.
