Hi - work laptop. Previous user is gone and can't get the pin. Attempted restore activated BitLocker. Went with a fresh install of Windows 11. All good up to the point where it needed internet access, and could not find the network driver. I downloaded a bunch to a flash drive, and none worked. Wondering if it's because they're EXE files? No idea what to do next. Please help. Thanks!

Hi:

The parts list for the notebook indicate that it comes with a Mediatek Wi-Fi adapter.

HP PartSurfer

Below is the link to the latest Wi-Fi driver for that model adapter:

MediaTek Wireless LAN Driver

sp161835.exe

To answer your question...yes, the drivers won't install because they are exe files and you need to browse to the driver folder to the location of the actual driver setup information file.

To do that, using another PC, download and install the free 7-Zip file utility, download the Mediatek Wi-Fi driver.

7-Zip

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the Mediatek Wi-Fi driver file. you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, copy the folder to your USB flash drive and you should be able to browse to the location of the Wi-Fi driver setup information file.

Another thing you can do is when you are at the point of setting up W11 and you can't go any further until you can connect to a network, follow the guidance at the link below to bypass the internet connection requirement to set up W11.

How to bypass internet connection to install Windows 11 - Pureinfotech

Once you are in Windows you can just run the Mediatek Wi-Fi driver exe file from the USB flash drive or copy it to the Windows desktop, run it from there and install the Wi-Fi driver.
