My processor is an Intel Core i7-8550u CPU x64.

My current BIOS is "American Megatrends Inc. F.40, 04/25/2019".

Make me happy please!

Hi  @bross_m,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern and don’t worry let me help you with this.

Let’s work through this together so we can get you the correct update and make sure your laptop runs smoothly.

To help me guide you to the right BIOS update link on the HP driver support page, I’ll need a few more details:

  • Serial Number of your laptop
  • Product Number (usually found on the bottom of the laptop or in HP Support Assistant)
  • Windows Version and Build Number (you can check this by pressing win + R , typing winver, and hitting Enter)

Meanwhile, here are a few quick troubleshooting steps you can try before updating the BIOS:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing esc or f9 during startup) to confirm the current BIOS version.
  • Run HP Support Assistant to check if it automatically detects available BIOS updates.
  • Ensure your system is fully updated through Windows Update, since sometimes firmware updates are bundled there.
  • Make sure your laptop is connected to power during any BIOS update process interruptions can cause issues.

Once you share the serial number, product number, and Windows build details via private message , I’ll be able to provide you with the exact BIOS update link for your model from HP’s official support page.

To access your private message, just click the little blue envelope icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile name. Alternatively, you can click on this link.

Okay, deep_world,

I'm happy for your detailed answer.

But I've carefully followed all these steps and ended up with a BIOS update F.43 (12/28/20) for my Spectre (sp111955).

Now I'm trying to install it, but it won't install.

There's something wrong with this update.

I've also tried making an HP_Tools flash drive (FAT32), but without success.

Also check out the following community of other people with the same problems as me.

And I'm talking about a community from 5 years ago.

I'm just looking for the correct BIOS version that works.

Hi @bross_m,

Thanks for your response and I completely understand how  this must feel you’ve done everything right, followed the steps carefully, and yet the BIOS update still refuses to install.

Here’s what I’d suggest moving forward:

  • Verify compatibility: Double‑check that the BIOS version F.43 is specifically listed for your exact Spectre model (SP111955). Sometimes HP posts multiple BIOS updates under similar product families, and the wrong one can appear in the support list.
  • Installation method: If the HP_Tools flash drive method isn’t working, try using HP Support Assistant or Windows‑based BIOS update utility instead. These tools sometimes handle dependencies better than manual installation.
  • Community confirmation: Since you mentioned others had the same problem years ago, it’s possible that F.43 was later replaced or withdrawn. Checking the official HP drivers page https://support.hp.com/  for your model today may show a newer or corrected BIOS version.

I hope this helps.
