Hi All,

My computer does not have audio. It is not recognizing any audio device. When I hover over the speaker icon in the task bar it says "No Audio device is installed". I attached a screenshot of what it looks like when I open the sound output. I have tried every recommendation I could find. I updated audio drivers, uninstalled audio drivers, updated bios, ran the audio troubleshooter (which, fun fact, doesn't work at all when there is no audio device detected), reset windows. When I reached out to HP they gave me these 3 files to install:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp154001-154500/sp154106.exe

Told me to install all three and then restart the computer. This did not work either and then I was told that there was nothing else they can do because the laptop is obsolete. The laptop works perfectly except for this issue. I am hopeful that the  community can be more helpful than HP.
Additionally, I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but within device  manager, my sound, video, and game controllers section seem to be fine but under system devices, the intel smart sound technology (intel sst) oed, has a yellow icon next to it and when I open it up it has a code 10 error. Attached screenshots of everything. Let me know if there is anything else needed. I refuse to accept the reason I don't have audio is because "my laptop is old". Any suggestion would be appreciated.

@Wayfinder6, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding missing audio device!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your computer is not recognizing any audio device and displays "No Audio device is installed," there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Physical Connections: Ensure that all cables are securely connected if you are using external speakers or a headset.

Verify HDMI Connections: If using an HDMI cable, make sure it is properly connected to both the computer and the output device. Sometimes, issues with HDMI can affect audio output settings. For more information on HDMI connections, refer to HP PCs - Troubleshooting HDMI display and sound issues.

Select Correct Audio Device: Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab. Ensure that the correct output device is selected and set as default. Right-click in the window to ensure disconnected and disabled devices are shown, then select the correct one.

Run HP Support Assistant: Use the Audio Check feature in HP Support Assistant to verify if the audio device is functioning properly. You can download it from HP Support Assistant.

Perform a Hard Reset: This can clear any information in the computer's memory that might be causing the issue. For desktops, disconnect all peripherals and hold the power button for about 15 seconds with the power unplugged. For notebooks, ensure to perform similar steps as described for a non-removable battery notebook.

Update Drivers Manually: Use Device Manager to try updating or reinstalling audio drivers manually. Sometimes Device Manager can succeed where automated methods have failed.

Check BIOS Settings: Make sure that the Integrated Peripherals or similar settings in BIOS are not disabled regarding audio settings.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

The device is a dragonfly elite laptop so the audio is the built in speakers. I have tried all of these recommendations and none of them have worked. As you can see in the screenshot I attached there isn’t an audio device to select.
