What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

Use this guide to find that information:

That device needs the Intel Management Engine Interface driver installed, but there are many different variations of that driver used based on the Intel processor and chipset the notebook has.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the info. However, not being an expert I'm still unable to find the S/N.

I press the "ESCAPE " key and the "FN" key together to open up the info and nothing happens! What next

thanks

You're very welcome.

What model Intel processor does your notebook have?

That would also let me know what driver to give you.

Hi, I Evidently I responded directly to the email sent rather than coming back on the forum. Sorry.

Here is the info you asked for.

It's an intel. Core TM i5-4200U
Ram - 8. 0 GB. 1.6 Gh
Again sorry for the mix-up and duplication of the info.

You're very welcome, Frank.

Here is the link to the driver you need for the PCI Simple Comms Controller.:

Intel Management Engine Components Driver

11.6.0.1045

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp79001-79500/sp79059.exe

I've replied by mistake to the forum e-mails several times myself...it's just habit to reply to e-mails I suppose.

They just end up in the bit-bucket.

Cheers,

Paul

Sorry, one last question. Do I delete the old driver on the device manager first or just install the new one over the old one?

HP Recommended

The driver is not installed, which is why Windows has given the device the generic description as a PCI Simple Comms Controller.

Download and run the driver.  It should install the device.

Hi, Frank:

Sorry that didn't work.

Please post the hardware ID for the device that needs the driver so I can figure out what driver it needs.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:
