Microsoft Windows 11

I’ve tried the registry TabletMode fix, disabling all 4 HID sensors, rotation lock, and driver reinstall from this thread, but my HP Pavilion x360 (Windows 11) is still stuck in tablet mode despite being in normal laptop position. I’m not sure what else to try, please help.

Hi @MSCK1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since the HP Pavilion x360 remains stuck in tablet mode after trying the HID sensor, rotation lock, driver reinstall, and TabletMode-related fixes, let's focus on additional HP and Windows troubleshooting steps that can help determine whether the issue is software-related or caused by the device's mode-detection hardware.

Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Shut down the notebook completely.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all external devices.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and start the PC.

Update the BIOS

  • Open HP Support Assistant.
  • Check for and install any available BIOS updates.
  • Restart the computer after the update completes. An outdated BIOS can occasionally affect hinge-position and sensor detection.

Verify Sensor Devices

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sensors and System Devices.
  • For any Sensor, Intel Integrated Sensor Solution, or HID-related devices:
    • Right-click and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the PC.
  • Allow Windows to automatically reinstall the devices.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Press the Power button and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  • Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Tests, especially components related to the motherboard and embedded controller.
  • Note any failure IDs if displayed.

Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Sensor Service and Sensor Monitoring Service (if present).
  • Ensure they are set to run and are not disabled.
  • Restart the services and reboot the PC.

Test in HP UEFI Diagnostics Environment

  • Boot into HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • If the keyboard and touchpad function normally outside Windows, the issue is more likely software-related.
  • If the system still behaves as if it is folded into tablet mode, this may indicate a hinge-angle sensor detection issue.

Install Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all Optional Updates, including driver and firmware updates.
  • Restart the device after installation.

Check for a Hinge Position Sensor Issue

  • Slowly fold the display through several positions and return it to laptop mode.
  • If there is no change in behavior and the keyboard/touchpad remain disabled, the internal hinge-position sensor may not be reporting the correct state.

Based on the troubleshooting already completed, if the system consistently remains in tablet mode and no software changes affect the behavior, the issue may be related to the internal hinge-angle or mode-detection sensor rather than Windows settings. Running the HP diagnostics and ensuring the BIOS is fully updated are the most important next steps to help confirm the cause.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
