I ran the exe and it installed on the computer but did not update the automatic driver

so I installed the driver with the file myself

Yes, that's what you have to do when the auto install doesn't work.

Your notebook has a slot in the case to read SD or micro-SD cards is that are used in cameras, cell phones and whatnot.

The device that reads those cards for which you manually installed the driver, is provided by Realtek.
