Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP put in a new harddrive this spring and specifically told me not to include the power cord when shipping.  The problem was not solved and subsequent calls to HP while still under warranty did not provide a solution to the problem.

THE PROBLEM:  The brightness option is reversed when the power cord is plugged in.

When plugged in the screen remains black on power up.

I must unplug (be on battery only) and go to Power Options and turn the brightness in Power to Minimum.

The screen then goes to Maximum brightness.

This setting does not stay as the Default.  I have to go through this routine every time I power up.

Brightness issue. Is that right?

Thank you for sharing the issue details. I would like to help you.

Try the steps below and check if that corrects the issue.

How to reset your display adapter.

Follow this

  • Window + X
  • Go to Device Manager
  • Drop down Display Adapters
  • Right click on your display adapter (mine's Intel(R) HD Graphics)
  • Click on Disable. The screen will blackout for a few seconds.
  • Once it returns, right click again and click Enable.
  • Try your brightness keys.

Hope this helps. Let me know for more.

Happy posting.
