Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging.  When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google:

 

1. Turn off the notebook

2. remove the battery

3. remove the charging adapter

4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds

5. insert the charging adaptor only

6. press the power button

 

and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

Dear Customer,

 

Welcome and Thank You for posting your query on HP Support Forum

 

It looks like your Notebook is not charging the Battery, We will surely assist you with this issue

 

Please perform below shown steps to resolve the issue:

Step 01. Click on the Start Button

Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager

Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left

Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall

Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again

Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook

Step 06. Please remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter

Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute

Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter

Step 09. Look for "Plugged In Charging" message on the Battery icon

 

After performing all the steps if you are facing the same issue still, please perform three more steps:

 

1. Run a Battery Check in HP Support Assistant[Install the Software if it's not available]

Note: Replace the Battery If Health Check Status shows Replace

 

2. Update the latest BIOS for your Notebook from HP Support Site

 

3. Please check your Notebook with a known good Power Adapter & Battery from a different Notebook

 

Note: If a known good battery is also not charging we need to replace the system board

 

How to improve the life of a Battery:

1. It is not advisable to use the Notebook when the Power Adapter is connected

2. It is not advisable to keep the Power Adapter plugged in even after the Battery is fully charged

3. You need to let the battery drain completely before charging again

4. Power Plan should be set correctly for extended battery life

5. Please keep the Screen Brightness at lower level

6. Please turn OFF Wi-Fi Connection when not in use

7. Please remove the CD/DVD's from the Optical Drive when not in use

 I also had the same issue. My Probook 4540s is additionally showing Error 601 and showing 'plugged in not charging'. I tried all the steps (of KNRK) except the one where a 'good Power Adapter & Battery from a different Notebook' is mentioned .   Prior to Error 601 and showing 'plugged in not charging'  it had huge problem to boot for the first time, but after first boot it worked seamlessly. The first booting problem was not showing for sometime (as I got back to my workplace) until the error 601 cropped up 3 days back.  I could get rid of the first time booting problem after keeping the probook with battery and AC adapter plugged in consistently. Since this 'plugged in not charging' is a new problem in Windows 7 that I am facing, so I want to confirm if there is any other way to detect if its a systemboard issue without swapping AC adapter and battery from other notebook.

 

I would appreciate any suggestions on this. Just for completeness my Probook 4540s is 1yr 8 mths old and out of warranty.

my ho probook4540s is not charging. the icon says "plugged in not charging" .i have installed windows 10. i have not been able to log into device manager and find + icon for batteries.

I own an HP Probook 4540s and the Li-ion battery is not charging. The external power supply works. I've tried several of the diagnostic steps in the forum with limited degree of success. However, my battery is dead and a second battery I purchased is now dead. I'd like to recharge these batteries externally to give me time to run some of the recent diagnostic repair steps recently posted in the forum. I would like the 6-pin pinouts from the battery so I can set up an external charger. Thanks.

Still my computer does not charging,but the battery is identified, and it shows as if charge is entering while it's not charging, the only that it does it maintain the power
