Paul, I reinstalled windows 11 and when it loads, it locks at 'getting online' because there is no network adapter or controller installed and it insists on an *.inf file which I cannot find for my
HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y3AV)
any suggestions? I've uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times with the same issue; thanks

When you are at that part of setting up Windows, see the link below for how to bypass the internet connection and set up a local account.

After you do that, you can install the Wi-Fi driver from your notebook's support page:
HP Laptop 15s-fq5041nx (805U8EA) Software and Driver Details
Now, if you don't even get that far, you can use the free 7-Zip file utility on another PC.
Install 7-zip and after it installs, right click on the exe file you downloaded.
Have 7-zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its driver folder.
Copy the driver folder to a USB flash drive and browse to the contents of the driver folder for the driver setup information file and you should be able to continue on with installing Windows.

You're very welcome.
I suggest that you use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

Since you have to use the tool on another PC, you will have to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.
The product number you posted covers multiple different product numbers/model numbers as you can see from the link below, so you have to locate the specific product number for your exact model notebook.
You may be able to find the specific product number for your notebook in the BIOS' system information screen.
After you find the right one, you have to include the #ABA that follows the product number.

If you are right clicking on the cloud recovery tool and selecting 'Run as Administrator' and you are getting that message, unfortunately, I don't know why that would be happening or what you can do about it.
Sorry, but I don't have any other ideas for you to try and you may want to consider taking your notebook to a PC repair shop and let them reinstall Windows for you.
